Wang Wenbin Highlights Symbolism in Naming of Boulevards in Cambodia-China Friendship

Phnom Penh, July 19, 2024 - Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia, Wang Wenbin, emphasized today that the naming of Sihanoukville Boulevard, Mao Tse Tung Boulevard, Xi Jinping Boulevard, and Samdech Techo Boulevard was not coincidental but a deliberate reflection of the strong ties between China and Cambodia.

Addressing attendees at the inauguration to unveil the sign post of Xi Jinping Boulevard on July 19, 2024, Ambassador Wang highlighted that the boulevards stand as symbols of the enduring friendship between the two nations. He underscored the commitment of Chinese and Cambodian leaders to deepen bilateral relations, which have historically fostered mutual cooperation and prosperity.

Xi Jinping Boulevard, spanning 47.10 kilometers as the third ring road linking Phnom Penh and Kandal Province, was officially opened on August 3, 2023. Ambassador Wang noted its significance in enhancing regional connectivity and promoting economic development across Cambodia.

"The inauguration of Xi Jinping Boulevard today signifies the unwavering friendship between China and Cambodia," remarked Minister of Public Works and Transport, Mr. Peng Ponea, during the ceremony. He expressed gratitude on behalf of the Cambodian government and people towards President Xi Jinping and the Chinese government for their continuous support in advancing Cambodia's socio-economic development.

First Vice President of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol, also speaking at the event, praised China as a steadfast partner in Cambodia's growth across various sectors. He expressed confidence in the continuation of this strong bilateral relationship into the future, emphasizing the enduring nature of the countries' friendship.

The ceremony marked a significant milestone in Cambodia-China relations, underscoring their shared commitment to mutual prosperity and regional stability. The naming of Xi Jinping Boulevard on May 28, 2024, under the presidency of Prime Minister Hun Manet, reflects the strategic importance both nations place on their enduring partnership.
